The roar of conversation from the main area of the central tower fades to a soft hum as you step through the doorway under a gateway marked 'Industrial Zone' and shut the door behind you. Inside, there isn't anything in the room other than a small touch display in front of a circular gated area. You're the only trainer in the room, which is odd compared to the larger number of trainers you saw filtering into the other stations.
You approach the touch display in front of you and look down at it. There is nothing on the screen other than a blue background with text reading SCAN ID HERE. Obliging it, you take out your freshly printed ID and place it on the face down on the screen. The computer hums for a second, then lets out a small blip, the text changing to read ACCEPTED.
The sound of metal gears turning reverberates through the room as the metal floor enclosed by the circular gate in front of you slides open, causing a sense of vertigo as it reveals the ground, some 70 feet below you. After a brief pause, a Magnezone floats up through the opening carrying a large circular pod, the glass door of which hangs open.
The door of the pod swings shut behind you as you step inside, locking itself with an audible click. There's a lurch as the Magnezone adjusts to your added weight, and then you find yourself being carried through the open section of the floor and outside the tower. The Magnezone carries the pod at a brisk pace, and in the span of two or three minutes, you've left the boundaries of the central tower and are entirely in the Industrial Zone.
The landscape is barren, the ratio of brown to green heavily skewed to the former. Past the small factories scattered around the countryside, a light purple haze surrounds a distant city, the product of the many smokestacks rising up through the fog. In the other direction, there's … a theme park? It seems out-of-place, but with all the lights and what is doubtlessly an oversized Ferris wheel, it could hardly be anything else. You watch the light rail cars go rolling along the complex web of rails that line the ground far below, making stops here and there. Off in the distance, resting against the ocean at the tip of the zone, a huge city overlooks the area, a patchwork of skyscrapers and metal skeletons that will graduate to skyscrapers soon enough.
The pod touches down and there's a clunk as the door unlocks itself and swings open. You step out, placing your feet on the packed dirt, and the Magnezone carts away the pod back towards the central tower. There's a light rail station behind you, but your focus is on the lab in front of you.
The building doesn't look like what you'd expect from a lab at all, with walls made of sheet metal and a large overhead door in lieu of a regular one. Next to the tightly shut door, a Forretress has attached itself to the wall, guarding the entrance. As you approach the door, the Forretress quickly looks at you and seems to decide that you aren't a threat, choosing to resume facing straight ahead.
